Sporting Action 2014!!

Not being a sporting fan myself, I have always found it a little strange when a customer has said to me “Oh no we cant travel that week my husband won’t miss the motor racing” or “Let me just check the football fixtures that weekend.” I could never imagine having to work my holiday around a big sporting event. However thanks to a new dedicated sport channel  designed just for the cruise industry, cruise passengers will not need to worry this year.

P&O and Cunard will both be boosting “Sport 24” throughout both fleet for 2014.  This 24/7 sport channel created by IMG media with allow customers (Satellite dependent) round the clock live updates from all their favourite sports.

Kicking off the live coverage will be 2014 Winter Olympics taking place in Russia between February 7 to 23. Shortly followed by second half of the Premier League season will feature ahead of the FIFA World Cup in June and July. German Bundesliga matches will be shown together with Formula 1 motor racing; the Australian, French and US Open tennis tournaments; and golf’s Ryder Cup, Open Championship and US Open.

The schedule for “Sport 24” will be announced in advance giving customers booked on one of 10 P&O or Cunard ships the opportunity to plan their days prior to departing for their holiday.

David Noyes, P&O and Cunards Executive vice president said: “Sport was one of the true highlights of 2012 and continues to play a large part in people’s lives, so we want to make sure our passengers don’t miss out on any of the sporting golden moments that 2013 and beyond has in store for us”.

Sport is popular all over the world in every country and culture, so this move is not a surprise and is great news for sport lovers out there to insure they do not miss out on big sporting highlights. I wonder how long it will be before other cruise lines such as Holland & America, Princess or RCCL follow suit and sign up for “Sport 24”.
