Cruising the Indian Ocean

Every time we look at a cruise and it’s
itineraries it’s usually the same. You either look at the Mediterranean, the
Caribbean or the Far East, yes there are others but to name a few. But we never
see anything of the Indian Ocean. Again you have African Safari club with small
ships, even Kuoni have their little atoll explorer but why can’t one of these
big ocean liners cover the Indian Ocean? I think if a big ship with its modern
day luxury, activities on board, entertainment everything they have. Why not
have a sailing that covers the beautiful Maldives islands, Mauritius and the
Seychelles? Could maybe have a pot in Sri Lanka being only 400 miles west of
the Maldives.

I just think if an ocean liner would think this
up we could have an absolutely beautiful sailing of places that some can’t
afford to go to or won’t for a holiday but to fly into possibly Sri Lanka and
cruise these wonderful places, I’m sure many would jump aboard to do such an itinerary.
I often here, once you do the Caribbean, it’s all the same. Well I think the Indian
Ocean could offer something different. Excursions to Robinson Crusoe Islands,
snorkelling and scuba diving excursions, I’d certainly be interested in. Some
of those beautiful islands in the Maldives won’t even be there in 30 years so
why not let people see them now. I’m sure they can arrange a tender to shore
for most Islands and places like Mauritius and the Seychelles are just so
expensive to book as a holiday so why not stop by on a cruise and experience it

. Nowadays we should be able to do anything so it really shouldn’t be that hard for one of these big Ocean liners to make it happen. What do you think?

  1. Couldn’t agree more!
I’m lucky enough to have visited these places (and snorkelled!) when younger. Now, I’d appreciate the ease (and air-con!) of a ship.
It wouldn’t work for the Maldives, Steve. They are simply TOO delicate and shallow, if you haven’t been, to get anywhere near. Frankly, they’d be ruined by multiple tourists, anyway.
But the other places should be do-able by tender!
