F.A Cup Quarter Final

Today is a crucial game for my beloved Charlton Athletic. We’re away to Sheffield United in the F.A Cup quater finals bidding for a place in the semis to be played at Wembley. I am lucky enough to have been to see Charlton at Wembley in arguably the greatest game ever played at the old famous towers. It was an extraordinary climax to the end of the domestic league season. One of the greatest games ever played at Wembley. the 1st Division play off final vs Sunderland. You just had to see it to believe it. One super Clive Mendonca scored a memorable hat-trick. The game ended 4-4 after extra-time and it went to the dreaded sudden death penalties. We won 7-6 and our end of the stadium erupted in jubilent raptures. Our reward and pot of Gold that day was a place in the Premier league.

For those on board Cruise ships and Football fans. I’m sure you wil all be on the big screens watching the important games. I remember being on the Thomson Dream during the World Cup and what an atmosphere it was to watch the games live on an enormous screen.

I think it’s excellent that the Cruise ships have these screens so even during the biggest tournaments we can still watch the games even at sea. I’ve spoken to people who arrange their holidays around tournaments not to miss out. Nothing worse than being away and you’re desperate to know the score.  So well done to the ocean liners who show sport on the big screen so even at sea we can enjoy the beautiful game.

Today we take over 5,000 travelling addicks fan to cheer us on and hopefully get the win to take us to Wembley and the prospect of being only 90 minutes from a place in the final. Charlton haven’t been in the semi final since 1947 when we won the cup beating Burnley 1-0 in the final. Do I dare dream we can do it again? It’s what the cup is all about. Surprises. Last year we had one with Wigan beating Manchester City so can this be our year? Come on you Addicks!
