Four new ships for Hertigruten

I’m really excited with the current news that Hertigruten are to have four new explorer ships to join their exceptional fleet. This is the biggest expansion the company has had in the last 120 years.

I got the chance to try Hertigruten out for myself last year as you may have seen from my December blogs. The experience was out of this world, and I’m now hoping to do more exploration itineraries in the future.  It was the darkest days of my life to date with only 2 hours of daylight a day, so I’d not recommend it to anybody with a vitamin B deficiency, but one of the most surreal experiences of my life.

To go to places in the world that not many people choose or even have the opportunity to go to was exhilarating in itself. Adventure travel is definitely on the up, bringing a much younger cruise passenger with it. Young professional, adventurous couples, single explorers, this is the market these new ships will be targeting.

When I was on board ‘Richard With’, there was a very successful business passenger on board with us who owns a chain of sushi restaurants throughout the UK. Her love and passion for fresh sea food led her to travelling with Hertigruten up to the North cape. We also had photography buffs from all over the world trying to capture the perfect Northern lights pic.

Daniel Skjeldam Hurtigruten’s CEO says they are to build the most formidable expedition ships the world has seen. Adventure travel is one of the fastest growing travel segments with a two-year growth of just over 195 percent.

So for all you wild adventurers out there watch this space, this is definitely going to be very exciting and give cruisers even more choice and options than ever before.
