Your Roving RePORTer..Next stop Las Palmas

Last week I talked about Tenerife as a cruise stop and this week it’s the turn of Las Palmas Gran Canaria.

So, apart from lovely sunshine and beautiful beaches, what can you do in Gran Canaria for the day?

Las Palmas is over 500 years old and there are many original buildings in the old town including the 17th century Palacio Regental as well as bronze statues of dogs, the legendary animals the Romans named the islands after. ( Nothing to do with small yellow birds!)

Venture further afield and you can discover the charming town of Teror with it’s distinctive wooden balconies and the pretty church of Nuestro Senora del Pino rumoured to be built to mark the vision of the Virgin Mary on the top of a pine tree.

 Another lovely little town is Arucas with it’s imposing neo-gothic church of San Juan Bautista.

A popular stop is Santa Brigida, an old town and the most exclusive address on Gran Canaria with many luxury villas.

The vast volcanic crater of Bandama rises 1,900 feet above sea level and offers stunning views of the island.

And if you are tired of the beach, shopping and sightseeing, just enjoy the amazing array of fauna that Gran Canaria offers.
