MSC, full of hot Italians?

I have just spent 4 nights on board the very beautiful MSC Preziosa with a group of my colleagues at cruise.co.uk.

A couple of the most frequently heard negative comments about MSC is that they will be full of Italians and that English is a secondary language.

It is true that MSC is an Italian cruise line. It is true that they make their announcements in a few different languages. It is true that the muster drill has to be in every language used by the passengers on board  for obvious reasons.

The cruise we have just taken was from Venice to Barcelona but was a section of a longer voyage ending in Brazil. There were many different nationalities on the ship including British, Italian, French and many Brazilians who certainly know how to party. The dance floor was full every evening. Everyone was friendly and all seemed to get along. We do all have different ways of queuing and certainly different ideas of fashion and swimwear etiquette! (That’s another blog!!) Travel is about broadening your ideas and if you want to be constantly surrounded by your fellow countrymen, why leave home.

Is English a secondary language? Apparently not. All the signs and menus were in English. Any shore excursions you book are in English and you are sat with other English speakers at dinner. The poor staff do a great job of trying to communicate in many tongues, and none of them native to them, so sometimes things are lost in translation but on the whole, there is no problem.

If the cruise was full of non-English speaking Italians, there would be many scalded ones as even the sign in the shower was English.
