100 plus days to feel like a tortoise!!

World Cruise fever is definitely upon us as P&O and Cunard epic journeys for 2016 go on general sale this morning.

As I reminded my husband last night to make sure I was up this morning bright and early to secure cabins for my eager customers, we got talking about what life would be like for almost 17 weeks on a ship.

There are many reasons why you would want to take one of these iconic trips. Maybe it is your idea of ultimate escapism. Get away from your everyday life and live in luxury and pampering for up to a third of the year. Imagine not shopping for food, cooking a meal, making a bed or cleaning for all that time. All these cruises are in our winter so that’s a good enough excuse in itself to get away.

For me, the main incentive would be the destinations. Visiting so many countries in one holiday is my idea of heaven. Touring the world taking your hotel with you, a bit like a tortoise exploring the back garden but on a slightly different scale!! Experiencing exciting new sights and smells then returning to the familiar comfort of your stateroom on board.

I have decided though that if I am ever fortunate to have the time to take one of these holidays, I would have to have a goal to learn or do something new whilst away.

Last year on a 13 night cruise, I learnt Chinese brush painting and kept it up when I got home. On another cruise, I learnt the basics of ballroom dancing. In 3 to 4 months away, I would want to be “Strictly” standard!!!

Maybe there’s a series of books you’ve always wanted to read or a language you’d like to learn.

With a host of activities and talks on board, you certainly won’t get bored.

Have you been on a long cruise or are you planning one. I’d love to hear your views…
