Sliding Standards

So how things have changed since I joined my first cruise in Puerto Rico, it was the NCL Windward weighing in at about 56,000 tons, when I first looked up at it I was astounded how big it was, I found myself getting lost for the first 2 weeks of being on board. I would some how always end up at the pool deck, I remember this particular pool deck having a relatively small pool with a few sun beds surrounding the outside, there was a small band stand where the local Caribbean band would play most sea days.

Too be fair I do not remember that much more about this part of the ship, but I did think how cool it was to have a pool that you could at least swim a couple of lengths in.

So moving along 20 years and, well what a difference the pool decks look like now, there could be up to 3 pools, numerous sun bathing areas, children’s splash pools, adult only pools, the list goes on. Cruise lines now have opted to add water slides now, but not just any slides, these things would not look out of place in Wet N Wild, every year the cruise lines try and out do each other with bigger and better water slides. It is unbelievable what the cruise lines are inventing to try and attract families these days. Royal Caribbean have just released news about their newest addition, too be fair it is not a water slide but a normal slide, however this is not just any slide, it will be almost the same length as the height of the ship, built into the aft end.

What do you think of these new additions, would it be something you would want to stay away from?
