Don’t Talk Politics, Talk Cruising!

There we have it, Donald Trump is the next president of the United States. Whatever your political leanings the world is changing that’s for sure! However, as much as things change the country does not and I for one love the States and equally love Canada too. The States and Canada are some of the best places in the world to visit with the most amazing scenery, lovely people and a shared language! One of the best holidays we have had was a New England and Eastern Canada cruise which really does have to be one to put on your bucket list. Some of the destinations you think do not have perhaps the pull of New York or Boston but so worth seeing in my humble opinion.

boston

I know alot of people would say start in New York for this particular cruise but for me it has to be Boston which is a lovely city.  So unlike New York, full of history, Boston tea party and all that.  The Freedom Trail is a really good way to walk around and see the city and the harbour area is fab.  If you are going to do this then stay a couple of nights in Boston and perhaps take a catamaran to the town of Salem famous for the witch trials. (it is not very spooky though!)

Most of the ports of call on this cruise are I think a bit different. For example you have Halifax in Nova Scotia where we had a piper greeting the ship. Of course Nova Scotia is very proud of its Scottish roots! This particular port is really famous for the Titanic disaster as it was the closest port to the wreck and therefore there is of course a museum there.   Then we have Newport which is on Rhode Island.  I really liked this port. There are some massive mansions there, many have been used in such films like the Great Gatsby.  Really lovely walks, again a bit like old bygone days. The cruise will also take you to Portland in Maine, very famous for its lobster’s of course. Not forgetting St John in New Brunswick, not much really here however the scenery around and about is lovely.

Piece de la resistance for this cruise does have to be Quebec City. What a fantastic destination! I found it so strange to be in Canada but in a city which is so French. When the ship docks at Le Vieux port you can walk or take the funicular to the upper town which is dominated by the citadel which is a fortress and military garrison, a huge historic and well known site.  Once you have “done” the sights if you get a chance to visit the Montmorency Falls then do so, they are 30 metres higher then Niagara Falls.

Quebec

I would also remind you that New England and eastern Canada is a wine producing region, again if you get a chance you should try and see the local wineries.  In a nutshell if you like to see scenery which is really beautiful, visit places which is so very unlike the typical places in the States or Canada then this cruise could be right up your street!

If you would like any further information on the cruise’s or on the destinations, just shout!
