Cambodia & Vietnam At A Glance

CAMBODIA.

Smiling faces, warm welcomes, and fascinating stories reward the traveller to Cambodia. The country welcomes tourists, and in its main cities, such as Phnom Penh & Siem Reap, English is spoken widely.

Its a must to always have bottled water in Cambodia, and to speak to  your APT-Travelmarvel or Tour Operator or local guide before trying food sold on the streets. You’ll find Cambodian cuisine superb, when I stayed at the Sokha Resort Hotel, we went out for the night to a local restaruant for dinner and had a superb meal and cheap ! We took a Tuk Tuk into town about 5 minutes a way.

The food though uniquely Khmer, has an influence by its Thai neighbours, as well as by the influx of Chinese and Indian migrants over the Centuries. The main diet we found was Rice also baguettes and pate. The countries rich waterways , including the Mekong River and the Tonle Sap, makes freshwater fish and especially prawns popular. Due to the tropical climate, there is a fantastic supply and variety of exotic fruit too in Cambodia, you can find it on the stalls on the bustling markets- BUT BE CAREFUL.

WOULDNT RECOMMEND THE TRANTULA.

We all had on our voyage a fondness for Cambodia it just felt right, vibrant, non commercialised, friendly faces around every corner, the IN place was Pub Street, very similar to Bangkok but on a smaller scale. A cheap place for a massage costing around $6.00 for a full body massage- cant be bad.

VIETNAM

I couldnt beleive all the bikes when we arrived it was amazing coming from all directions how no one crashed heaven only knows, 2/3 people on a bike was a “normal sight” infact the more you can cram on the better. But much more commercialised than Cambodia, with shopping Malls around every corner.

The cuisine in Vietnam was a delight Rice, Noodles, Fish & Chicken form the basic of most dishes. Fresh vegetables are most often served in a stir-fry or broth with chilli, lemongrass, coriander or fish sauce. Most of the dishes we had we shared, and if you manage with the chopsticks they dont mind giving you a knife and fork- but you have to try first…
