QM2 Smoking Policy

I have just recently returned from a 3 night mini cruise on the QM2, part of the Cunard fleet. It was an easy process embarking on the ship with probably the most up beat staff I have ever known when boarding. With most ships I have been on I like to get to my cabin, unpack and explore the ship. I know sometimes it can feel like forever before your luggage turns up however my luggage was more or less there within 5 minutes of arriving to my cabin – Happy days!

After unpacking and seeing a little of what the ship had to offer I then decided to look around to see where the dedicated smoking area was (being the smoker that I am). Well this would have to be the only down side about my visit on this ship. The smoking area was at the aft section of the ship which had some fantastic views. However to get from the forward section of the ship (where I was staying) to the aft section of the ship felt like a long stretch of going down, up, down and up.

The reason for this is because of the Queens grill and Princess grill, as you can not walk through these areas unless you are staying in a Princess or Queens suite (which would have been lovely). So as you can imagine at various points on the cruise I began to give up going to the smoking area every now and then which is a good thing.

Bearing in mind some other cruise lines still allow you to smoke on your balcony, in the casino or even any open area this ship is ideal for non smokers as most of the smoking takes place on the aft of the ship. And in all fairness the aft section of the ship can be the place to be before or after dinner when there is a DJ or even the Bon Voyage party where they had fireworks.

You could also smoke freely inside the G32 club (only upstairs where they have filters clearing the air). So if you are a smoker but don’t enjoy the cold weather you can smoke in here, although it only opens from 6pm onwards.

All in all it was a great cruise, the food on-board was absolutely amazing in the main restaurant “Britannia” and the lunchtime food was great also. The evening entertainment consisted of the English pub or the G32 night club depending on your feel for the evening. I met some truly amazing people on board and everyone was more then friendly.

Would I cruise again on the QM2? yes I would as I found it to be a lovely ship, well maintained considering it has be sailing for 10 years now. Great staff, great atmosphere and great food.
