Half term fun with a little sun

How to keep a 6-year-old entertained for a week during the winter months!

Winter half term is a funny time! It’s just after the Christmas rush and the weather is normally cold and wet.

Well, not this week! The last part of the week was fantastic! The temperatures peaked at 18 degrees on Saturday and Sunday!

Monday was cinema time with grandma and her cousin Matilda who is 9. They went to see How to train your dragon 3 which is an animated film – I am sure they enjoy the popcorn and sweets more! Followed by a trip to their favourite fast food outlet – McDonald’s!

Tuesday we went for a long walk – well about 4 miles! Far enough for Ella! Daddy met up with us and we had a coffee in the garden centre.

That evening I met a friend at the Etihad stadium in Manchester – her son plays for Southampton under 11’s and they were playing Manchester city. We went on the tram. Much easier than trying to park.

I have only ever been to the stadium before to watch Take That in concert. The training pitches, floodlights and facilities are great for families.

On Wednesday we went to a fairy door and cupcake workshop at a nearby shop called doodle pots! They painted the fairy door and added glitter and pictures. They then did similar to a cupcake! Added chocolate or vanilla icing with sprinkles on top! Then ate their creation!

Later that day we went to a splash park in Huddersfield. Only about a 30-minute drive away and the weather was a little wet so it was perfect timing. We enjoyed a couple of hours of slides, water cannons, buckets and swimming in the lazy river. I must say it was fantastic! Ella was used to the lazy river from our cruise, so she really enjoyed that.

On Friday I went out with my girlfriends. We had a boozy afternoon and enjoyed a lovely meal in our favourite restaurant – Gusto.

The weekend was saved by glorious weather! We had long walks and had a well-deserved ice cream to end a lovely week off!

Did you do anything nice at half term?

Have you been enjoying the unexpected sunshine?

Thanks for reading
