First Virgin cruise ship floats out, more on order

Virgin’s first cruise ship has recently floated out and in a similar theme to the Virgin colour scheme she has been named Scarlet Lady.

There is still some time to wait till she starts to sail on consumer voyages with the first starting from Miami in 2020.

Virgin has said that this ship will be an adult-only ship. There are also 2 additional ships announced by Virgin set to be released in 2021 and 2022, these will also be adult only.

I am quite surprised to hear that they will be adult only to be honest, I did think that Virgin might have an element that they would use to try and attract families but it might not be a bad idea. There are so many decent family orientated ships already at sea with the likes of Royal Caribbean especially.  I think there is more of a gap in the marketplace for this type of adult only product and should help Virgin stand out in the crowd bit more.

It seems that Virgin will have quite a focus on “wellness” on their ships. This is all well and good as long as there are plenty of alternatives for people who aren’t as interested in this type of thing. Many people want to let their hair down whilst on holiday and are not interested in “wellness” whilst on holiday.

In trend with many other cruise lines recently Virgin has said that they will ban single use plastics.

Talking about the new cruise brand Richard Branson has reportedly said “”If there’s a female captain and a male captain, and they’re equally qualified, we’ll go with the female,” Branson said during an interview with Cruise Critic.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading when I read this. I am all for equal opportunities for men and women but surely that is just saying you will deny equal opportunities to men, not happy with that Branson.
