Why Not Try Something New? (Hopefully not something painful)

Last weekend, I tried some new activities.

Firstly, it was my husband’s birthday weekend so he chose what we were doing and I accompanied him to see our local football team play at their home ground. This was not my first visit to a football match but it was my first to our home stadium. With the sun shining and a large crowd singing, it was actually a very pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon and even better that it is only a twenty minute walk from our house. We rounded off the evening with a long stroll along the river to a restaurant and a lovely meal.

Sunday, we went to visit my mother-in-law. She has a beautiful garden and three large fig trees, so that afternoon was spent harvesting the ripe figs which were heavy on the trees and starting to fall. My daughter had joined us there and it was fun gathering the sweet fruit. This was another new and a very enjoyable pastime, until I experienced another first which was not so enjoyable for me, or for the bee that stung me on my shoulder (ouch).

Monday, we had taken a day off work to extend the weekend and as it was yet another gloriously sunny day, we went to Dover to walk along the famous white cliffs. There was not a cloud in sight and we had a clear view of France. A fifty minute walk took us to a lighthouse and a delightful tea room. If you have ever sailed from Dover, you can stand on deck and get an amazing view of the cliffs and the castle and from the top, we had a view of the busy ferry port and, beyond it, the cruise port.

I like to experience new destinations and activities as much as possible. I will always look at what we can do on board a ship or on land that is a bit different whether it is riding  a Segway or having an art lesson or swimming with dolphins.

Last year, I joined a running club and have my first 10k medal and this year, we started dance classes and have just mastered the tango!

Who knows what next year brings…
