Cruise on the Mekong- Part 2

Following on from my last blog, this is the second part of my cruise on the Mekong River.

Before I told you about our time in Ho Chi Minh City and our experience of the ship (RV La Marguerite).

What I really liked about the ports on the cruise was being able to visit the small towns and villages. It gave a real contrast between the busy cities of Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City. We got to meet a lot of locals and see how they live and work.

We also stopped at Phnom Penh, where we had some free time so we went on an excursion to a Wildlife Sanctuary. This was very interesting and the best part was we got to feed elephants which is something I have always wanted to do.

After seven nights onboard the ship, we finished our tour with two nights in Siem Reap. This was a great way to end the tour as the hotel was lovely and very relaxing. I would highly recommend the hotel which is called The Shinta Mani Resort. The staff are so helpful and friendly and the food is delicious.

For the evening head to pub street where there are plenty of restaurants and bars that will suit all tastes. A group of us went there one evening, where we had a lovely meal and then ended up in a karaoke bar. It was really good fun. There is also a night-market with live music and a great place to grab some souvenirs.

A key reason to go to Siem Reap is the visit to Angkor Wat, which we visited at sunset. This gave some amazing photo opportunities. You get a three day ticket and some people went back at sunrise and said it is definitely worth doing too.

I hope this has given you more of an insight into the Mekong and if you have any questions please ask!!
