A sad day in the World of Travel…………………

The 23rd of September was a very sad day in the Travel Industry seeing the collapse of Thomas Cook. I think this was so big almost everyone knew someone who either worked for them and find themselves with no job or had a holiday booked with them.

Headline news was made fore almost the entire week and its still ongoing.

I had a flight booked to travel to Dalaman tomorrow, luckily managed to rebook at not to much of an increase however only got a week was going for 11 days originally and I am now going down the chargeback route as I had a flight only  that arent covered with ATOL.

After the firm collapsed in the early hours of Monday, around 15,000 holidaymakers were flown home on 64 flights. Airlines have been accused of exploiting the collapse of Thomas Cook, after customers noticed that prices for flights on the travel company’s former routes have risen sharply some fares reported to be as much as 3 and 4 times highter than the orignial prices.
Im sure the staff are devasted with the events that unfolded especially after seeing the Fat Cat bosses taking massive bonus payments that they awarded to themsleves.

Just this morning The boss of  Thomas Cook has said he is “deeply sorry” over the historic travel firm’s liquidation.

Peter Fankhauser also told the Mail on Sunday that saying farewell to staff had been “heartbreaking”.

The 178-year-old travel firm collapsed this week, putting 9,000 staff in the UK out of work – and leaving 150,000 British holidaymakers stuck overseas.

But Mr Fankhauser defended the £8.3m he has been paid since November 2014, and denied he was a “fat cat”.

I really hope there will be a thorough investigation into these payments and send my best wishes to the staff invloved and hope they are able to find new jobs and careers.

Hopefully most people are now in the process of getting refunds and alternative holidays and we will see things settling down.

Love to hear your views
