Daily Life With A Viking

During breakfast each morning an announcement is given by the cruise director, they will let you know what time you need to be off the ship for the daily excursion, they will also remind you to take with you your hearing devises, fully charged overnight of course.

On leaving the ship you need to hand in your door key which in turn is replaced with a card to let the ship know you are on one of the excursions, you will also be able to collect a complimentary bottle of water on your way off the ship.

Mobility – River Cruising is not completely advisable for someone who has walking difficulties or mobility issues,  for example, the mooring of River Ships can sometimes be troublesome, I have sailed on a few ships without proper docking stations, some may be up steep muddy hills which are not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility problems. Also, some of the Cities on River Cruises have cobbled streets which make it very difficult with wheelchairs. On the majority of River Ships, there is no lift to the sun deck, which means walking up 6-8 steps which can be very steep.

On the Viking ship, we sailed on the Kvasir – it had a lift from the lower deck to the upper deck, but again it didn’t reach the sun deck, so you had to walk up the steep steps to the sun deck.

Shops on board – Are very small due to the size of the ship, and stock limited items such as sweets, postcards, jumpers or jackets displaying the cruise line’s name.

Mercedes – Had to include our visit to the Mercedes factory at Rastatt – top secret a huge huge place the size of 3 football pitches and 6500 staff work there, and of course we couldn’t take in our camera’s to the shop floor, only the front sales office…

Much more to come from Viking….
