Heathrow Ready to Go Well Almost

For the past 10 years all I can remember about the London Heathrow debate is will The London based airport get the third runway over London Gatwick; This dominated the news and has long been a concern for both environmentalists and locals who feel air pollution in a congested area is already a concern.

For years approval has been stunted and it never really seemed likely to get off the ground (excuse the pun)

London has now reached a point of no return as we are now the busiest two airport runway in the world, I have personally been stuck for an hour que to land on the runway its clear there are too many planes.

The thousands of new jobs and apprenticeships coupled with the carrot of Billions of pounds worth of increased revenue to the UK seems to have been enough to make an historic decision yesterday.

Chris Grayling, transport secretary announced his cabinet approval for 2.6b in compensation for residence to give the London Heathrow project the go-ahead.

Its very unlikely a spade will even touch the ground for another 4 years as if I know anything its wealthy Londoner’s will no go quietly. There is almost certainly going to be legal challenges to every single part of the planning permission stage with many revisions required along the way.

Campaigners are arguing that the new runway will breach the UK’s legal limits on air pollution and increase noise pollution with an extra 700 Planes per day, hundreds if not thousands of homes will need to be knocked down.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this?

Are you for or against this argument. Working in travel its clear to me a huge number of our customers actually fly from local regional airports so could this project have been better organised on a local level? It makes no sense to me that you cant fly worldwide form regional airports currently and someone living in Newcastle has to drive over 300 miles to find an airport where they can fly to their chosen destination.

All this from the same City who have launched a low emissions zones to fine motorists if your vehicle is not complaint. my only hope is those same restrictions are applied for the good of London when it comes to big business of aviation. What will it be London?
