Rolling, Rolling, Rolling down the River

I am writing my latest blog just days before I sample my very first River Cruise.

I have been lucky enough to have been invited on a trip with Great Rail Journeys, to sail aboard the beautiful Amadeus Queen down the River Danube.

I will be flying to Vienna where I will board the Amadeus Queen. That same evening I will be in for a real treat. After dinner we will have an exclusive private recital by musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

The rest of my itinerary includes visiting Austria’s famous wine making region the Wachau Valley, where I will visit the 11th century Benedictine Melk Abbey. There will be a trip to Salzburg where I will attempt to do a little shopping for my 2 little girls (I’ve promised them a little something for leaving them for a few days!) before visiting Regensberg which is a medieval town which houses many buildings that testify to its history as a trading centre and to its influence on the whole region from the 9th Century onwards.

The final evening we will be lucky enough to get a chance to dress to impress, as we attend the Captain’s Gala dinner.

Finally I will be heading home from Passau via train back to London, before continuing my journey up North to sunny Blackpool.
