Fresh back from the River!

Hello all.

If you have read my blogs you will all know I was due to fly out an meet Brabant in Basel for 4 nights. Well after the trials of getting to Heathrow from the North, a mere three trains and the underground to contend with I arrived at the “Thistle” for my overnight stay prior to an early morning flight to Zurich. We arrived to glorious sunshine and a welcoming face from Fred Olsen River Cruises to meet us for our onward transfer. Arriving later than planned to the ship, we were soon checked in and sat for our first evening meal in the delightful restaurant. The menu is set with 2 choices for Starter, soup and your main meal, all of which were lovely. However if the choices aren’t to your taste, the restaurant staff can accommodate you with other options which are available every evening. If you have chosen the drinks package which currently is included with selected sailings you have the choice of White, Rose or Red wines along with soft drinks to compliment your meal. Dining is open and commences at 7pm each evening.

Our cabins were tastefully decorated and beautifully appointed, we had a Juliet Balcony which was just lovely with floor to ceiling glass doors, allowing you to enjoy the majestic scenery the Rhine has to offer.

The itineraries do vary but a great advantage to River cruising and certainly with Brabant is the ports are generally a late evening departure allowing more port time and evenings in quint towns and villages along your journey. We experienced Speyer, Mannheim, Strasbourg and Kloblenz along our River cruise, to optimise our time in port we booked the Fred Olsen shore excursion package, a great way to explore the towns with local experts. You can purchase in advance a package which will set you back £200pp but this will include a choice of excursions in each port for the duration of your trip and works out to be fantastic value, bearing in mind the price includes all your transfers and entry fees (where applicable).

The question is would I do another River Cruise?, would I recommend Brabant, would you enjoy cruising the Rivers of Europe and beyond?.. the answer is definitely YES. What are you waiting for, if you have considered River cruising but feel overwhelmed with the products on offer or which river you would like to cruise on, then give me a call and I can guide you through and find you the perfect River Cruise.
