Fancy a Haunted Ship?

Now i’m not a believer in ghosts but me and my wife watched an old episode of Most Haunted this week where they investigated The Queen Mary which is now a permanent feature in Long Beach, California. Most Haunted is a British Television Series, where a  group locks itself into a haunted location for 24 hours in order to explore the science and psychology of haunting’s. Presenter Yvette Fielding and a team of paranormal investigators visit locations in Britain, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, hoping to document evidence of paranormal activity.

Most Haunted visited the apparently haunted ship that is residing at Long Beach California USA. RMS Queen Mary is alleged to hold at least 600 ghosts. The RMS Queen Mary is one of the most famous cruise ships of all time. Paranormal activity that has been reported throughout the ship include the sounds of knocking, doors slamming and high pitched squeals and drastic temperature changes. Being a sceptic though I think even the newest of ships would make creaking noises etc so wouldn’t put that down to paranormal activity!!

The Queen Mary has been a permanent feature in Long Beach, California for a couple of decades and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is permanently berthed in Long Beach, California serving as a museum ship and hotel and popular tourist attraction. It has also gained a reputation as one of the most haunted structures in the world.

Following Queen Mary’s permanent docking in California, the ship became a subject of haunting rumors Since the 1980’s, this supposed haunting has figured significantly into the marketing and promotion of the ship, with various attractions and tours presenting the theme for visitors.  The ship was voted “one of the top 10 most haunted places in America” by Time Magazine in 2008. In particular, Cabin B340  is alleged to be haunted by the spirit of a person who was murdered there, and people have reported hearing sounds of children playing in the nursery.Other reported ghosts include a young sailor who was accidentally killed in the ship’s engine room, crew members of the Curacoa who were killed when Queen Mary collided with her, and an unidentified “lady in white”.

All told, at least 49 crew and passengers are known to have died during the Queen Mary’s service as a luxury liner. Although many reported haunting’s are supposed to be the ghosts of drowning victims, the ship’s logs do not record any instances of passengers drowning.Approximately 75% of the deaths were crew members, and about 25% were passengers. It is unknown how many servicemen or POW’s died aboard the Queen Mary during her stint as a troop transport ship in World War II; these records are housed by the US military and have not been released.

The programme was light hearted and entertaining unlike some of the rubbish thats on tv but what do you think? , do you believe in Ghosts?  Have you visited the Queen Mary in Longbeach? Im not sure about all this haunting and ghost business, but i would be interested to hear of any spooky stories from any cruises you have been on.

If you ever decide to cruise out of LA book a night or two pre cruise onboard the QM to see if it’s true!  I’ll happily book it for you
