Princess Outperforming 5 Star Rivals?

So over the last couple of weeks when speaking to my returning guests, I’m noticing one brand above all that seems to be clearly outperforming it’s rivals: Princess Cruises.

Now I’ve long been a fan of this US brand, due to their multi-generational appeal, excellent approach to service, and ability to keep pace with even the most tech obsessed brands.

Owned by cruising leviathan, Carnival, the Princess Cruise brand has now created a clear definition of where it sits in the market, but speaking to my customers over the last few weeks and months, I believe they are now outperforming themselves as a four star brand, getting far better feedback than some of their close five star rivals.

This is a brilliant achievement in this day and age for the industry, where new ships are being built, and the industry is in danger perhaps of saturating the ‘mass market’ ship.

Feedback such as; better food, higher level of service, better entertainment, etc have all become almost the norm to repeat multibrand cruises.

But how are they doing this?

Granted Princess are bankroled by the largest cruise company on the planet, but money isn’t everything. For me facilities are one thing, but staffing is another. They are one of the few brands who don’t seem to have cut back on ship board crew levels. One of the few that haven’t let the production of new ships affect existing standards. One of the few are not afraid of re-inventing themselves.

In short, they are managing customers expectancy very well, and their crew training seems to compliment the brand very well. My customers continually praising them.

They also visit a huge number of places on the planet which have always remained popular. Naturally a big Caribbean program, a large presence in the Far East and Australia. But I think most impressive remains their Alaskan program, with the add-ons to the likes of Denali. This has always been a winner for Princess, and it continues this success year on year.

But what Princess are really doing well for their customers and agents alike, is offering excellent value for money.

This combined with interesting itineraries and well organised and managed ships, is a recipe for success, which I hope will continue.

Other brands could learn a thing or two at the moment from Princess. So well done, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for reading and as always, until next time….
