My Day on board Queen Elizabeth

On Friday I had the opportunity to have a day on board Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth ship. In this weeks blog post I wanted to give feedback and comparisons to other cruise ships so you can decide if it the right ship for you.

Up until then I had never set foot on a Cunard ship. Through work we normally get the change to get on for the day for free so we can experience it and help us sell it. On the occasion I went with my much off my own back. It cost me £50 per person which is more than other ship visits I have been on. It was a birthday present for Mum so thought it would be worth it.

The ship. Queen Elizabeth is part of the Cunard brand and have 2 other ships in the fleet. Queen Victoria (Is almost identical to the Elizabeth) and the Queen Mary. Which is primarily used for transatlantic crossings. The Queen Elizabeth has a max capacity of £2500 passengers so I would class this is a mid size ship. The ship has stuck to its traditional feel with Dark decor and mahogany furniture. Not to my taste but you can see how people would like it

The Rooms. We got to see most of the rooms types on board. From the standard inside to the top suite. This according the the guide will cost you about £2000 per person per night. Obviously these were impressive and apparently still sell out on every sailing. The type of cabin I normally go for is a balcony so I had a particular interest in these. I must admit these were lovely. The balcony itself was one of the biggest balconies I have seen. This would be my recommendation on this ship.

Activities and entertainment. My personal opinion on this is that it would be for the older clientele to me. I prefer a larger ship with more to do. I dont think this ship had anything out of the norm in terms of activities. It had 2 pools a casino, art gallery, gym and library. Much the same as every ship. Unfortunately I didn’t get to witness the entertainment on board so cannot judge this however the Theatre was great and again a real selling point on this ship.

The Food. There are 2 set dining times on the ship. 6pm or 8pm. If you opt for a princess suite or Queens suite you will have a dedicated restaurant just for you. If you decide you want to go for a balcony in club class then you can choose Freedom dining. We had our dinner in the Britannia restaurant. This is the standard restaurant for Inside, Ocean view and Balcony Guests. The food was delicious and if I were to get that standard of food for a full cruise I would not be disappointing.

Overall it was a lovely experience and would certainly go on a Cunard cruise. For me I wouldn’t go for longer than a week as I prefer the larger ships however everybody has different taste and I can imagine this ship will appeal to a vast array of people. If you have any questions about the ship please do not hesitate to ask.
