Norwegian Fjords on Indy

On the 28th of July, we embarked on what can only be described as a magical voyage to the Fjords. Our ship for the 8 nights was the newly revitalized Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. My wife and I had last been on Indy in 2009 when we went on our first ever cruise. It is easy to see why she is the U.K’s favourite cruise ship. We were blown away by all the new additions which are especially aimed at the children. From new water slides to laser tag, trampoline jumping, a climbing platform (which my children referred to as the giant Pringles!) and a new pool area for the little guests. It’s done in such a way that there is minimal impact on the adult’s side of the ship.

She has had some extra cabins added to the front of the ship and I was a little apprehensive on how this would impact on the space available to move around. I am happy to say that we did not notice any difference to how it was in 2009.

We were blessed with the lovely warm weather which allowed us to experience all the outdoor water activities as well as the new mini golf which has now been moved to the front of the ship. We never had any problems finding a deck chair and enjoyed the Caribbean live band that played every afternoon at the main pool.

Our cabin was an outside cabin which was just perfect for us as we only slept there. It was cabin 2660 which was just 2 flights down from the lifeboat deck where you can actually walk all the way around the ship and 3 down from deck 5 which was the main promenade which had all the shops. I was usually the first up in the morning and would head up to deck 5, grab my latte and then head back down to deck 4 where I would enjoy the beautiful scenery as we cruised up the Fjords.

The Windjammer (buffet restaurant)  has also had an upgrade and was where we had most of our meals. We found the food to be the best quality we have ever experienced on a ship. We even had lobster available at the buffet which I have never seen on other cruises before.

Our evenings were spent going to shows, having cocktails on deck 14 in the Viking lounge or watching movies under the stars. I would highly recommend this family holiday to you all. It was so magical and relaxing.

On my next blog, I will tell you all a little more about the ports. In the meantime please call me if you would like to know anything more about this fantastic destination and family ship.
