What about the cabin?

When it comes to booking your cruise it’s always a dilemma , which cabin shall I choose? It is usually been dictated by the price but if we leave the price factor to the side for a minute, where is the best position on the ship? the Quietest part? Best views? least movements? It’s always a big debate to choose the right cabin. The general advice is to go for a mid ship cabin to avoid the excessive movement when the ship is in rough seas. This is the usual general consensus which is right but it depends on the destination and time of the year, as if you are sailing in the Mediterranean in the summer, the sea is going to be very calm and it may not be necessary to have a mid ship cabin as you normally have to pay extra for that. What deck should you go for? some say not too low as you are closer to the engine noise, this can be true but again, if you are on a mega big ship, it may not be important as big ships are usually more quiet than small ones. The next thing is deciding which side of the ship to choose, port side or starboard and to work out where the is the sunny side, that if you have a balcony of course.

Obvious factors are also not to be next to a launderette or any other public area that creates noise and gatherings, such as lifts and stairs, but then again if you have difficulty in walking you want the cabin to be next to a lift.  Space is also an issue, always check the square footage to work out how big is the cabin or of course how small. Sometimes inside cabins can be larger than outside or even a balcony cabin. All cabins have private facilities and no cruise line will ask you to share facilities in communal bathroom… I do get asked sometimes if they do…

Finally ,enjoy the cruise and do bear in mind , you are not buying the cabin, you are there just for a short time and most of the time on the cruise you are not in it!
