P&O Drinks Package…Will you be saying Cheers?

As I am sure you are all aware by now P&O are now trying to keep up with their rivals and are trialing drinks packages on board.  Currently this is being trialed on Azura for a short period of time.  Here is what is being trialed:

For £39.95 per person per day you can have the following

  • Beers, spirits, cocktails and wines by the glass up to the value of £6.95
  • Unlimited draft soft drinks, mocktails, primo Costa Coffees, teapig teas, hot chocolates and small bottled water
  • 20% discount on drinks above £6.95, bottles of wine, large bottles of water, canned and bottled soft drinks, juices and smoothies
  • If travelling with children 16 and under the Children’s Drinks Package is at no extra cost

Of course there are restrictions in place:

  • Each adult in the same cabin must purchase the drinks package
  • Only available on cruises of 5 nights or more and has to be purchased for the full duration of the cruise
  • Non refundable
  • Alcoholic drinks are limited to 15 beverages per 24 hour period from 6am to 6am
  • Only one drink per time may be ordered and a minimum wait of 15 minutes between orders

The drinks package can only be booked on board and has to be confirmed by the end of the 2nd day on board.

Let’s have a look a bit more in to the cost of the package by looking in to the costs per duration based on 2 adults sharing a cabin:

7 Night Cruise – you will spend £279.65 per person which is a total of £559.30.  Based on a drink up to £6.95 in value that would be 5 alcoholic drinks a day per person

14 Night Cruise – you will spend £559.30 per person which is a total of £1118.60.  Again to get the value of the package you would need to be drinking 5 alcoholic drinks per person per day.

This does of course sound doable.  What you must take in to consideration though is you may be spending days off the ship when it is docked.  Some people may only want to have a couple of glasses of wine in an evening so this may not be beneficial to them.

What are your thoughts?  Are you thinking cheers to this or do you feel this is not good value for money?

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Until next time….Happy Cruising!
