South Pacific – A Cruise to Remember!

So, Hawaii is an amazing place, but you’ve done that now, and you want that ultimate exotic South Pacific cruise.  You can cruise out of Sydney or Brisbane, to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji, which is an amazing combination, but for many the ultimate South Pacific itinerary includes the likes of Rarotonga, Moorea and the iconic Bora Bora, which are usually cruised out of Tahiti.  I had the joy of taking a 10-night Princess cruise around these islands, plus a couple of lesser-known gems, such as Raiatea and Huahine, and it’s an experience I will never forget!

Tahiti looks beautiful, but alas, I was unable to enjoy much time there, as my flight arrived late, and the ship sailed before long…I recommend having a pre or post cruise stay there so you don’t miss out like I did.

Moorea is even more beautiful than Tahiti, with stunning mountainous inlets, one of which the ship will use to safely tender you to the shore.

Huahine is the ‘garden Isle’, with fewer inhabitants on the entire island than you will find on some cruise ships!  Expect deserted beaches and little else except peace and quiet!

Raiatea is, in my opinion, overshadowed by its’ neighbour Tahaa, which has the most amazing coral reefs, and should be the focus of any time spent visiting these closely-paired islands.

Rarotonga is part of the Cook Islands (as opposed to French Polynesia for all the other islands on my cruise), and the currency is the New Zealand Dollar, which serves to remind you how far across the Pacific you’ve actually travelled!  Expect stunning beaches and ‘motus’ (small islands just off the shore).

Bora Bora is the island that’s so beautiful, most cruise ships stop there for 2 full days and 1 full night.  more amazing beaches, reefs and lagoons, along with the celebrity hangout of ‘Bloody Mary’s’ bar, which is a must-visit at some point, even just for half an hour, to rehydrate….
