Small but perfectly formed!

Small but perfectly formed are the AmaWaterways River Cruise ships especially the AmaDolce as many of other River Cruise Lines offer larger vessels with perhaps offer a slightly less-personalised service. River cruising at it’s best is sailing from Bordeaux sat out on deck in the autumnal sunshine with a glass of the local vino in hand heading for another vineyard for yet more wine tasting escapades – if this is your ‘cup of tea’ then read on……….

The AmaWaterways ship the AmaDolce offers fine dining at it’s best along with excellent service from all of the staff on board through an area of France where there are vines planted on it seem every spare inch of available land.  With the added advantage that almost all excursions are included in the cost there are two excursions that you cannot miss: visit the beautiful town of Saint Emillion and in particular the ancient monolithic church carved into a limestone cave in the 12th Century.  The other excursion not to be missed is the visit to Chateau de Roquetaillade where our guide turned out to be the owner, though out of modesty perhaps, she never revealed that the ancient château had been in her family for more than 700 years.

Breakfast, lunch (both buffet with ‘specials’ and soups served if desired) and evening meal (all a la carte) taken on board as there were usually one or two excursions each day and the mealtimes were tweaked accordingly.  There was also a chefs table which is a dining area at the aft of the ship where all passengers can dine at least once (remember to book as soon as you get on board!) This is a complete fine dining experience and not to be missed!  Complimentary wines from the region you are sailing through are served with lunch and evening meal as well as beers and soft drinks and your drinks are always topped up before departing the dining room.

All in all an amazing experience to a country I thought I knew all about – but this area of France is very special and has a great deal to offer everyone.
