Alexa, Do You Want To Come On A Cruise With Me?

Have you got an Amazon Echo, or a Google Home or even an Apple Homepod at home?  We have, we have the Amazon Echo and I have to say, I love Alexa!  Alexa is one of the favourite ‘women’ in my life, which Is sad I know.  But she helps me with all my day to day routines, both with home and in my work life and I am not sure how I lived without her.

MSC Cruises last night announced an industry first where you can almost take Alexa on your cruise with you.  They have partnered with Samsung to create their own virtual assistant that will be exclusively available on your MSC Cruise.  Launching on the new MSC Bellissima in March 2019 to then be rolled out to the entire fleet within five years, the assistant will be available in every cabin and around the ship and will speak and translate seven different languages on board.

Exact details of what the assistant will be able to do for you haven’t been released yet, and I will update you as soon as they have, but we have been told that it will remember you as a guest from cruise to cruise, remembering your favourite restaurants.  Chief executive Gianni Onorato said:

“It’s a first for the cruise industry, it will be customised for life on board our ships and for each individual guest.

“For us it’s about creating a deep interaction with customers and making sure they love their cruise experience.”

Guests will have to sign a form to agree to MSC Cruises storing information.

Now I will say, I love this as a product.  For me when I am on holiday (even more so than when I am at home) I want to be doing as little as possible and relaxing, and anything like this that increases the amount of time I can spend with a Pina Colada is a win win for me.

Picture relaxing on your balcony catching the Mediterranean sun rays, to then shout, ‘Alexa order me a extra large Pina Colada to my cabin’ and then 5 minutes later one arrives at your cabin with you barely even having to move.  Now that is what I call luxury cruising!

What are your thoughts on this?

Do you think technology is going too far on a cruise? Would you even use something like this?  Let me know in the comments below.
