Hamburg – My day in this Deutsche delight..

As you may recall, in April I took a mini cruise on the Queen Victoria, to the beautiful city of Hamburg with my colleague Leanne.  Hamburg is a city that I had never visited before but is becoming very popular for a lot of mini-cruises from Southampton with some cruise lines offering as a 3/4 night cruise round trip or just as a 2 night one-way itinerary to allow you then to either just fly the other way or to extend your stay in this German City.

From the Cruise Terminal – Cunard operated a Free Shuttle bus running regularly throughout the day, so we took advantage off this and explored the city on foot.

There is a very impressive town hall, with a large pedestrian area in front of this, lined with market stalls offering souvenirs and various Hot Dog stalls – which you can also accompany with a Beer, Gluhwein or Schnapps !!

I also walked around some of the shopping streets – which had everything from Cartier to C&A alongside the pavements were some glass lit windows with sayings on my favourite was: ” Dance, Sing, Floss & Travel ”

We also walked beside the beautiful lake that offered pleasure boat trips before visiting the Hofbrau Biergarten – a large Bier Keller – which had an amazing Buffet lunch offer – however having been eating so much on the ship we just opted for a beer. There was a great atmosphere inside, and you can imagine of an evening even more so.

In my opinion Hamburg looks a beautiful city and one that I would definitely return to for an overnight or 2 if I was doing a one-way cruise.

Auf Wiedersehen..
