Our Thailand Adventure – Part 2

After a few hectic days in Bangkok it was time to head west to Kanchanaburi, famed for the film the bridge over the river Kwai and full of memorabilia of the war where the Japanese army used prisoners of war to complete the railway with the famous crossing at the Wampoo Viaduct know as the Death Railway

Kanchanburi itself is a wonderful little place, not only is there the bridge to visit but also various memorials and museums as well as a fantastic night market

On our second day in Kanchanaburi we took a tour organised by the hotel to the Erawan national park, We sampled bamboo rafting and bathing with Elephants as well as taking a ride on the death railway itself.

As I mentioned in my previous blog, August is Monsoon season in Thailand and so far we had been lucky with the weather – however, it was now time to head south to Koh Samui where the sun was shining – We flew from Bangkok with Thai airways – the 40 minute flight is so easy and the airlines are so efficient – if you are planning to visit in August I would definitely recommend Koh Samui if you are looking for good weather

Koh Samui is a wonderful place, we stayed in the very popular Chaweng beach resort and hired an open top jeep for the day to explore the island in full along the way we visited the Golden Buddha, Various Waterfalls, Fisherman’s Village, the Secret Buddha Garden and Paradise Park Farm – Renting a vehicle is really easy in Thailand and they drive on the same side of the road as here in the UK, just be sure to obtain your international driving permit before you travel

Our next Stop was a Short Ferry ride to Koh Phangnan to sample the world-famous Half-moon Festival – A party held every 2 weeks in the forest with various different stages with both international and local Dj’s Featured.

Krabi was next on the list and a stay at Railay Beach, although Railay is fairly small it is like one large resort and only accessible via longtail boat. We took a tour from Railay out to the Phi Phi Islands and the 4 islands surrounding Krabi itself.

We loved Phi Phi so much that we decided to go and stay the night, this tropical haven is like nowhere else I had visited in Thailand or across the world, our Bungalow was set high in the Trees with fantastic views of the ocean and is the perfect place to visit if you want to relax

Our final stop was Phuket before heading home, a great place to rent a moped and explore the area and definitely take a visit to Tiger Kingdom and a trip out to Phang Nga bay home to James Bond Island the setting for the 1974 film Man with the golden gun.

Although our time in Thailand was limited we experienced the country to the fullest and it is definitely somewhere I would visit again. If you are planning to travel around Thailand I would plan ahead as much as possible especially if you only have a short amount of time, lots of cruise lines offer fantastic itineraries around Thailand and best of all the ship travels for you

If you are planning a trip to Thailand, please get in touch and I will be happy to help you plan your trip to this amazing part of the world
