Jackpot For Kampot Or Is It?

Kampot is deemed as one of Cambodia’s cultural Jewels but will it stay this way forever if The Chinese government get its way, it will soon be the victim of a Chinese loophole making it one of the largest Super Casino’s in the would with the residents of this small sleepy town becoming extremely nervous.

There are now just two Casino’s in Bokor with more expected to open once an 18,000 hectare resort is built which is currently in the early stages of construction.

Cambodia has had a huge lurch towards gambling tourism. Chinese players wanted more online and Face to Face poker options and this setting is perfect for the multimillionaires to have some fun.

Whats the reason for this sudden surge in Gambling in the region?

The ease in which Casino licences can now be obtained is a big reason as loose regulations has triggered a gaming gold rush that is shaping entire cities in The Far East around gambling.

The residents of nearby Sihanoukville a popular cruise port on our Far East cruises are very worried this will set a natural blue print of expansion into their town which on the one hand brings money and investment but on the other hand brings gambling and alcohol into their cultural home.

Sihanoukville has become the heart of Chinese investment in Cambodia with fancy wealthy condo’s and casinos as well as Chinese supermarkets.

As you would expect property prices have rocketed which can be a good thing but its also a huge negative for local business who can no longer compete with wealthy Chinese investors.

Its not uncommon for people to want something they cant have so In China and Singapore it has been difficult for people to express them selves with their gambling desires so with other neighboring countries offering this opportunity its no wonder this is fast becoming a problem for Cambodia.

What are your thoughts on this?

Will this be the New Las Vegas or Atlantic City? or is this unfair on such an unspoiled cultural part of The Far East.
