Is The Party Over for P&O??

In an earlier blog I wrote about mini cruises and whether they were a true reflection of a longer cruise as they tend to attract big parties and groups for hens, stags and other celebrations. Well clearly the powers that be at P&O have been thinking about this too and want their short cruises to give the same experience as the longer cruises, so major changes are about to take place.

Number 1. Dress Code. Fancy dress will not be allowed unless it is a special P&O theme night.

From 1st of January:

Guests will be expected to adhere to dress codes and the following will be prohibited:
Fancy Dress
Clothing with personalised slogans and images
Novelty clothing
Inflatables, bar crawls, practical jokes and drunken behaviour.

Number 2. Changes to alcohol policy

From 1st of February:

Adults over the age of 18 will be restricted to bringing on board one bottle of wine or Champagne or Beer or Spirit (1 litre).
Bottles bought during a visit to a port also can no longer be consumed on board and will be safely stored

Until now P&O were the most relaxed about taking on alcohol for private consumption, but they are toughening up in line with other cruise companies.

Personally I think this is a good thing as first time cruisers taking a mini cruise as a test to see if cruising is for them could be put off cruising for ever if they experience it as one big party. What do you think? Certainly lots of discussion on our forums. Take a look.
