Indy Getting a Makeover!

Well it seems Britain’s favourite ship is having a refurb and it looks to be a big one at that. Independence of the Seas arrives in Fort Lauderdale on the morning of the 3rd April and her next sailing is currently 20th May, so nearly 7 weeks! This will be her first refit since 2013.

A few details have been released so far about new features. There will be a trampoline park, water slides (rumoured to be the Perfect Storm Trio made up of the Cyclone, Typhoon and Supercell – a champagne bowl swirling slide), an escape room and laser tag.

This is what we know so far, however the ship is coming up for 10 years old and having sailed on her several times, most recently August last year, she is looking a little tired so I’m hoping the staterooms will be refreshed as this wasn’t done on the last one. What i do know is that the are changing the names on some of the suites, the Presidential Suite will become a Villa Suite with 4 bedrooms, sleeping up to 14 people and has a huge balcony with a whirlpool. Great for a large family party celebrating a special occasion. There are 1 and 2 bedroom grand suites sleeping 4 and 8 guests respectively, also a Spacious Promenade View which looks like two of the old type made into one sleeping up to 6 guests.

For a ship this size, there are not many speciality dining options which are quite a money spinner, so I expect to see some additions. It would also be nice to have an outdoor grill near the pool area which is lacking on this ship. I’m hoping they will also change the headlines shows (other than Grease) and Ice Shows as they have been the same for years.

Disappointingly she is only doing one 14 night Med cruise during Summer Holidays 2018 and with the new enhancements i think this will get booked up very quickly!

Anyone heard any other rumours? What would you like to see done on this ship?
