Happy Bank Holiday Weekend

Spring Bank Holiday Weekend is fast approaching and for a change the weather forecast is great. Set to be hotter here than Ibiza, says the Daily Mirror, with temperatures predicted to be reaching the high 20s!

So what will you be doing over the long weekend? I am having a rare weekend off and travelling to Somerset to visit family. No doubt will sit in traffic for hours. I thought I would have a look at what is going on and some ideas of things to do.

In London,

Skylight opens on Thursday May 3 at Tobacco Dock.

The rooftop spot at Tobacco Dock is reopening its three floors on Thursday May 3 and you’ll find street food, live entertainment, a platform bar that’s doubled in size since last year and big screens to watch the World Cup and Wimbledon on, all just waiting for you. If you’re keen to get in on the sporting action yourself, you can grab a mallet and play a round of croquet on the sky-high lawn, or show off your balls of steel during a game of pétanque

Can’t wait for the best and wurst of Oktoberfest? Think of this three-day party at the Bavarian Beerhouse as a frothy stopgap. Join for oompah music, German food and lots of beer (obviously) served in traditional steins. There’s a £5 entry fee on Friday and Saturday, but it includes a Jaeger shot. Cheers

Make new friends in the form of furry and feathery farm yard pals at Stepney City Farm’s May Day Festival. Watch a sheep shearing demonstration, join a Maypole and barn dancing session, tuck into tasty food and drink, get hands on in a craft workshop and, most importantly, join the 20th birthday celebrations of George and Dunstan – the farm donkeys.

And elsewhere,

Celebrating the history of May Day, this festival at Hever Castle focuses on some of the more traditional ways to mark the bank holiday. See the crowning of the May Queen and have a go at traditional maypole dancing – just watch you don’t get tangled! With May Day dancing demonstrations, a procession through the gardens and loads more too, this is a great bank holiday event for families.

Head north for the bank holiday this year, with May Day celebrations at Beamish on the Sunday and Monday. The living museum is bursting with activities to get stuck into, including Maypole dancing, themed arts and crafts and loads of entertainment to see too. At 2.30pm each day, they’ll be crowning the May King and Queen;

5th to 7th May 2018
Skipton Waterways Festival involves dozens of narrowboats and other craft will line the Basin and the surrounding towpaths and there will be a full programme of entertainment throughout each of the three days.

Whatever you choose to do this Bank Holiday, enjoy, stay safe and enjoy the sunny weather.

Dee.
