Get absolutely tatted at sea!

Virgin Voyages recently announced that their first ship currently being built in Italy will be called ‘Scarlet Lady’. Due to launch in 2020, the 2,700 passenger ship will be followed in 2021 & 2022 by 2 more ships with the same capacity. Scarlet Lady will be based in Miami and will offer 7 night departures to the Caribbean, further details on departures are due to be released by the cruise line before the end of the year.

What really caught my attention this week however, is news that Virgin Voyages will offer the first tattoo studio at sea! The venue will be called Squid Ink and will offer tattoos and body piercings. Cruise lines are constantly reviewing and developing their on board experiences to try to stay ahead of the competition and offer something different but I certainly wasn’t expecting tattoo studios at sea to become a reality. Personally, I have no tattoos and have no interest in getting one, I have no issues with tattoos but have never seen one that I think I would be happy to see every day for the rest of my life. My partner & I often say that when we are older, we will probably be looked at as strange because we haven’t got any tattoos. Most people around my age or younger seem to have tattoos nowadays.

I think Virgin Voyages are aiming for a younger demographic and are catering for what they believe cruisers want, or ‘sailors’ as Virgin call them. I just hope they shut up shop when the weather is rough and have a good policy on serving drunk guests, we’ve all seen news stories about people getting awful drunk tattoos whilst drunk on holiday! Perhaps someone may get a tattoo of Scarlet Lady to remember their cruise by!

Would you ever have a tattoo done on a ship? If so, what would you have done?
