Looking for something different – Part Two

Last time I opened up the world of Hurtigruten to you and their fabulous new ship, MS Roald Amundsen. This week I have chosen my favourite sailing of theirs on this fab new ship – it is literally in my top ten Bucket List trips and I know when you read all about it below you will be adding it to yours!!!

When I imagine a place untouched by the industrial and modern technology ages I think of Antarctica. I am almost certain that the landscape is as awe inspiring now as when Roald Amundsen first set foot here in 1911.

This trip with Hurtigruten attempts to cross the Antarctic Circle at 66°33′46.3″ S and you will then explore even further south.

The Antarctica, the Polar Circle and Beyond trip departs between January – February 2019 and lasts 20 days in total. You need to bear in mind that this is an expedition trip and the elements (weather, wind and ice) will determine the final schedule. The Captain will decide the sailing itinerary during the voyage so the information below provided by Hurtigruten to me is just an indication of what you can experience and why every expedition with Hurtigruten us unique.

After your first night in Santiago de Chile you will be flown to Punta Arenas to board the MS Roald Amundsen. This expedition shows you the beauty of Patagonia before you then tackle the Drake Passage to Antarctica and the Frozen Desert of the South.

When you finally reach Antarctica you will feast your eyes on some of the most beautiful, natural sights in the world.  Imagine sitting on your balcony, sipping a glass of wine an watching giant tabular icebergs drifting by – well imagine this no more with this cruise. Hurtigruten also advise you may see shoals of penguins or humpback whales so you will never want to take your eyes away from the water.

One of the fascinating things about Hurtigruten is their Expedition Team members are all certified by IAATO and are committed to ensuring that none of their guests leave behind minimal footprints and their local knowledge, expertise and love for Antarctica will ensure you will not only enjoy knowledgeable excursions but they will be ones you will be talking about for the rest of your lives.

Once leaving Antarctic you pass through the Falkland Islands which as a British territory makes it a very popular port of call.
