Queen Mary 2 Refit To Include Single Staterooms

Cunard is hoping to capitalise on the growing singles market by introducing single cabins on its flagship Queen Mary 2.

The ship is getting 15 Britannia single staterooms during a 25-day refit in Germany in May and June next year.

Angus Struthers, Cunard director, said the line was putting more focus on the singles market.

He said: “The number of cruisers choosing to travel alone is increasing and we continue to focus on this expanding market.

“Having already been introduced on Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, when our flagship re-enters service in June 2016 all three Cunard ships will offer single cabins.”

Nine of the single cabins will be on deck two and six larger single staterooms are being added to deck 3.

The size of the cabins are yet to be announced but in general the single passengers I talk too don’t mind to much on size, it’s more about the cost.

There was no mention of costs compared to a twin or double stateroom, however currently many sailings are double the price and the introduction of single cabins can only be a benefit.

The ship will also get 30 new Britannia Club Balcony staterooms during the revamp, and all existing Britannia Club Balcony cabins will also be refurbished.

Struthers added: “Our Britannia Club level of luxury really is one of the best kept secrets in travel. “One of the many positives of the work we are undertaking on Queen Mary 2 will mean more guests will be able to travel Britannia Club and all will travel in a stateroom offering a sophisticated new look.”

Do you think this is a good move by Cunard? Should more cruise ships offer single cabins? I know the new ships being built offer more and more single cabins, so it is certainly a growing market.
