Off on my holidays… to Spain….

I made the mistake last week of letting my son, Max, know that we were about to go on holiday to Spain.  The excitement of a 3 year old saying, every time we got in the car, ‘are we going to Spain yet’ wore off quite quickly. He even took up asking at breakfast time ‘what are we doing today Papa, are we going to Spain?’ Then to hear the disappointment in his voice that we were just going to nursery was such a shame. My only regret is that I told him so early.

We have booked an all inclusive hotel via Thomas Cook.  On the coast of Spain very close to Almeria. It will be Max’s first all inclusive holiday and it comes at a time where he is very much a fussy eater.  We are looking forward to sitting down as a family and trying to get him to eat something. At least he can experience some Spanish food for a change. In fact I think tapas might be the way forward. At least he can try a small portion of everything. Just don’t expect the same variety of food, when you get home.

For me I am most looking forward to the Moorish architecture of the fortress at  Almeria. Last time I was in the port of Almeria I was still working on ships and visited Alhambra Palace near Granada. Although the palace was amazing. Our guide on that day managed to make several mistakes with toilet breaks on such a long journey to the palace.  By the time we got there everybody was busting to use the toilet. Our tickets were timed for entry so we missed our slot. This lead to a rushed day and not the pleasant experience that the guests expected.

I am also really looking forward to some sun, sand and sangria. It feels like this year Has been full of work, with the allotment, building up sheds  and settling into a new home and surrounding area. One thing we do know about holidays, is that you have to go away sometimes to appreciate what you have at home.
