More new & exciting features announced for Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas….

It’s an exciting time for Royal Caribbean with their new ships on the horizon almost ready to launch. They will be launching 2 amazing new ships, Quantum of the Seas in November, and her sister ship Anthem of the Seas in spring 2015. I was reading just a few days ago about how the cruise market needs to grow to ensure the huge ships in the industry are filled,  Royal Caribbean’s response is that they are ready change perceptions of cruising  with the launch of the Quantum & Anthem of the Seas.

So how do they begin to do this?… well they will do what they do best and introduce more new ideas and innovations.

Quantum of the Seas,  167,800 tons, carrying 4180 passengers will be the first of the ships to launch in November this year and will be the first to show case some pretty amazing new features. Royal Caribbean have announced some brilliant new ways to enhance your cruise using new technology and in a world where technology is all around us why not on your cruise ship.

So what can you expect….read on and I’m sure you will be as impressed as I am!

Your suitcases will be chipped! What I hear you say….they will add a chip to your suitcase and from the minute it leaves you at the dock you can monitor where it is, through security all the way to your cabin!

Much quicker check in…this one should get rid of the long queues and make your check in much smoother. You will be able upload your photo before you arrive at the dock, print out your boarding card and off you go …straight on board.  The one thing I dislike, queues should be a thing of the past!

Much faster internet speeds and connectivity! This is one of the bug bears I hear from my customers when they have returned from their cruise, these days so much of what we do relies upon us being on line. My customers are always telling me…the wi-fi available on board was more than a little disappointing. Quantum will offer better than all the other ships!

wifi access

Ever thought you needed a butler on board too book your speciality restaurants and activities, well no more…you can download an App onto your phone and hey presto you can do it all. Book your favourite restaurant, excursions, spa treatments, on board activities with the new app and that’s it, they’ve made it so easy!

All crew members will be given a smart tablet, yes a lot of tablets especially when the plan is to give these out fleet wide eventually. This will give the crew the chance to keep in touch with family and friends, something I imagine to be so important when you are living on board a cruise ship. I remember my days as a Thomson rep and I would have loved this new idea as I’m sure the crew will.

And saving the best for last…..this has to be the Bionic Bar! Here is where you will be served your favourite drinks by….wait for it by a Robot! Yes the Robot will prepare your drinks and serve them! No more waiting in a queue for a bar tender…order on a tablet and the robot will do the rest!! What do you think, do you like the sound of this bar?

So in a world where we are surrounded every day by the advances of technology will you welcome them on board your cruise ship? Do you think Royal Caribbean are going in the right direction to change how customers see cruising?  Or are Royal Caribbean going to lose the personal touch introducing all these new technological features?

I think the new ideas are fantastic and I am really looking forward to experiencing all this new Smart technology on  board. I’m sure there will be passengers who are going to love it and for those that are not so technically minded don’t forget the crew will be there to help you, as you know they can’t do enough for you on board.

I for one can’t wait to have my cocktails served to me by a Robot!

I would love as always to hear your thoughts.
