Manhattan, Brooklyn or Cape Liberty – New York

Cruising from New York. Where do you stay? Is the cruise terminal close by? That depends on the ship and departure port as some are not really that central. We are planning on taking a cruise from New York next year so it got me thinking.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal – The closest Port to Midtown New York. This is a short taxi ride from Midtown hotels. You will often see NCL Cruises and Carnival Cruises docked here. Sometimes Princess will also use Manhattan.

Brooklyn Cruise Terminal – Not too far but over Brooklyn way. Some people opt to stay over in Brooklyn for convenience of getting on or off a ship but if you’re looking to visit the main attractions then Midtown is the better area to stay in.. Used by Queen Mary 2 on her frequent Transatlantic crossings and sometimes by Princess.

Cape Liberty – This is the naughty one. Cruise lines claim to cruise from New York. Cape Liberty is over in New Jersey and a good hour transfer from Midtown Manhattan. Great views of the NYC Skyline though.

So what does this tell you? For Manhattan & Brooklyn I will often advise customers to jump in a yellow cab. Taxis in New York are pretty inexpensive as I found myself when I was there in a couple of years back. However if you are heading to Cape Liberty you really should pre book the taxi which we can arrange if you are booking a tailor made cruise package through us. Don’t forget if you are booking a fly cruise package with a cruise line they will include your transfers so you have nothing to worry about.

My little tip if you are cruising from back to Cape Liberty and flying home from Newark take a stop off at The Jersey Gardens Mall for some last minute shopping on your way home!!
