Up up and away!!!!!!

Organisers of the 3 Queens celebration have abandoned plans to release 10,000 balloons to mark the 10th anniversary celebrations in Southampton on Friday.

On Friday 9th May 2014,  Cunard will set off their 10th Anniversary Celebration season with the 3 Queens lining Southampton’s  harbour for this memorable occasion.  During this celebration Cunard were set to release 10,ooo Biodegradable balloons into the sky, as part of the ceremony. However in a last minute turn around  these plans have been scrapped after an online campaign from environmental groups on facebook raised certain concerns about the impact on wildlife, mainly to the Marine life. According to the Marine Conservation Society, balloons are mistaken for food once they drift back down to land or sea, particularly by turtles.

A spokesman for Cunard said: “A number of people contacted us with environmental concerns after hearing about the balloon release. In response to their comments, we have looked into this further and reconsidered our plans and the balloon release will now not be happening as part of our celebrations.”

Other plans for this special occasion include the Duke of Edinburgh making  a Royal visit while a sparkling public firework display over the Cunard fleet of three ships, QM2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria , will be a spectacular finale. This will certainly be a day to remember.

Are you planning on joining in these celebrations by either visiting Southampton on Friday or even sailing with one of the 3 Queen on this memorable journey?

Or were you part of the Celebrations 1o years ago at the beginning? I would like to love to hear all about your experiences.
