British as Bangers and Mash!

Over the years British Chef Jamie Oliver has made a name for himself through various ventures. The British chef most famous for campaigning better school dinner menus in 2004, is now set to make waves at sea by being the Next Celebrity chef to launch their very own restaurant.

This new partnership with Royal Caribbean, will see Jamie’s Italian restaurants at the centre of the NEW Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas.

This new dining experience will offer a personalized dining options giving guests flexibility and control to shape their own culinary journey. Jamie’s Italian is known for high quality food and service at a very affordable price which has earned a loyal audience of repeat diners. The menu is based on tasty, simple Italian food, made from only the best fresh ingredients and the casual dining experience is a popular choice. The restaurants aboard the Royal Caribbean ships will be no different and simply a extension of this popular brand.

You’ll notice the design for Jamie’s Italian  a vast different from your usual “Select” dining the feel to this restaurant is a lot more laid back and with more of a Bistro  atmosphere, which I think customer will find a lot more relaxing.

I think this is going to be a great additions to the new fleet however a little disgruntled that our cheeky chappy who is as British as ” Bangers and mash” Jamie wasn’t snapped up by P&O to feature on the new Britannia. I have been a fan of Jamie Oliver for years and spent hours pondering over his cook books. So in the spirit of all the is the “Naked Chef” I thought I would share with you make favourite Jamie Oliver recipe.

Banana & Baileys bread & butter pud

75 g unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing, softened

7 to 8 slices good-quality white bread

100 g golden caster sugar , plus 1 heaped tablespoon for sprinkling

1  vanilla pod,

4 large eggs

600 ml double cream

600 ml semi-skimmed milk

4  ripe bananas

100 ml Baileys

100 g dark chocolate

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350F/gas 4. Lightly butter the bread on one side, then cut each piece in half diagonally.
Whisk the sugar, vanilla seeds and eggs together in a large bowl until well combined, then pour in the cream and milk and continue whisking until smooth. Peel and roughly slice the bananas, then roughly bash up the chocolate, if using.

Rub the inside of a baking dish (roughly 25cm x 30cm) with a little butter, then layer up the bread (butter-side up), bananas and chocolate, if using, finishing with a final layer of bread (again butter-side up). Drizzle over the Baileys and custardy mixture, then leave to stand for around 20 minutes, or until the bread begins to soak up the liquid.

Bake in the hot oven for around 35 minutes, or until set around the edges but still wobbly in the middle. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly, then serve as is, or sprinkle over the caster sugar and blast with a blowtorch to caramelise the top
