Glamour camping on the River

The Summer is when Camping takes off and thousands head to the festivals up and down the country to camp out. Well I experienced a bit of glamour camping. I like to call it Glamping! Glamour camping but on the river. I rented a boat from Le Boat and Cruised the rivers through Belgium and thoroughly enjoyed it.

No mud, my own shower and toilets to share with family I was travelling with and not a thousand strangers. Ok I didn’t have the live bands but our Cd player was just fine.

I would recommend this if you fancy doing something a bit different. We drove to Dover caught the Ferry to Dunkirk and even took our bicycles along with us. Now not exactly a Yacht but a nice little boat all the same. Plenty of room for our 4 bikes. Two bedrooms and bathrooms and a week on the river. Self-catering couldn’t have been better than this.

Stopping at a few little towns and villages along the way to get some shopping in and the odd pub lunch was just fantastic. It takes a little practice and I mean they give you just that. A half hour lesson if that to steer and reverse and park the boat and then your left to your own devices. Good job I took out the collision damage waiver as there were a few knocks. Oops!

The experience itself was fun though. Once you get use to the locks your well away. Sitting upstairs eating and making your own journey in your own time was great. So if you’re new to travelling on water give this a try. Even if you don’t want to go abroad there is always the Norfolk Broads closer to home to consider.

I’d certainly do this again and although I am a camping fan this glamour camping as I call it on the river is worth doing. Have you ever rented one of these? If so please tell me about your experience.
