Hurtigruten offer ‘Free Cruise’ promise.

The Northern Lights are without doubt one of natures most spectacular phenomenon, and many people try to couple this astonishing event with a holiday of a lifetime. Northern Lights cruises are becoming ever more popular as there really is no better way to experience the Aurora Borealis than on a ship, meandering around the northern most coastlines of Norway.

As is mother nature’s way however, there is of course no guarantee that you’ll get to witness the Northern Lights in all their glory. Hurtigruten Cruises have however recently announced a ‘Free Cruise’ promise which will go some way to making sure your dream holiday of a lifetime becomes a reality.

Specialists in Norwegian coastal voyages and Northern Lights cruises Hurtigruten have promised to give their passengers a free cruise for a second chance to see the Northern Lights if they don’t see the natural wonder during their first sailing.

The promise is applicable to anyone who books Hurtigruten’s 11-night Classic Round Voyage before November 30 for sailings between October 1 and March 31, 2015. The captain of the ship makes an announcement on board if the northern lights appear, if they don’t, Hurtigruten are giving passengers the choice of a seven-day Classic Voyage North or a six-day Classic Voyage South departing between October 1, 2015, and March 31, 2016.

Philip Price, interim managing director, said:

“This isn’t a gimmick; we’re so confident in what we do that we’re offering this promise. We cannot of course guarantee that passengers will see the lights during their voyage (only Mother Nature can do that), but we can do the next best thing which is to promise that if the lights prove elusive, we will give our passengers another opportunity to see them next year”.

As a self proclaimed cynic I’ve come across various ‘Price Promises’ and ‘Unmissable Offers’ before and quite frankly most of the time they are just a load of hot air, often a fantastic creation born from a marketing meeting which while sounding astonishing, often fail to deliver on all levels.

This ‘Free Cruise’ promise from Hurtigruten however seems like a genuine effort to ensure their customers get exactly what they want, by actually delivering on promises made and surely that can only be a good thing for us consumers right?

So for once I’ll take my cynics hat off and just say – well done Hurtigruten.

Bye for now.
