What’s the price of a childs life……

PC James Bremner of Bicester police station received commendation from the force last week for his quick thinking actions for saving a boy’s life whilst on board a Royal Caribbean cruise last year. Whilst waiting for a film to start on the top deck he noticed a waiter pulling a lifeless boy from the bottom of the swimming pool. He sprang into action and began CPR on the 6 year old, assisted by an American lady.

The boy has since gone on to make a full recovery, thanks to Mr Bremner’s quick thinking actions.

This is the part of this story that frustrates me………

‘The hero copper was immediately praised by the cruise operator who said he had acted with “valour and gallantry”, after he administered CPR until medical staff arrived.’

Well done Royal Caribbean, but if you had any form of safety around the pool at the time this incident happened this boy would not have had to rely on a member of the public to save his life and may not even be here today to tell the tale.

When will these cruise lines get the message, ‘WE NEED LIFEGUARDS’. With the number of families cruising rapidly growing, and pool areas being a major danger zone, how many more children have to die or have near misses before Cruise lines wake up and take action….
