Rocking and rolling on the Anthem

Anthem

Excitement and sheer fear was to be had on board the Anthem of the seas over the weekend when she sailed into stormy weather after leaving New Jersey on a seven night sailing.

Numerous videos have been uploaded to youtube of the view from passengers cabins witnessing waves reaching heights of 30ft high, which caused the ship to lean as much as 45 degree off centre. In one corridor the ceiling collapsed as the ship battled against 150mph winds, there was extensive damage to tables, chairs, shops, bars, and external deck areas.

The Captain asked for all passenger to stay in the cabins for their own safety to ride out the storm. Some passengers have said they were told they could help themselves to drinks free of charge out of their mini bar to calm their nerves.

Many customers have reported saying that they have cruised many times before, but this was one of the most scariest moments of their lives to date.

Due to the damage caused to many areas on board Royal Caribbean took the decision to cut the sailing short, turn around and head back to Port. They felt that it was only fair to return passenger back to dry land, and have offered them a full refund and a future credit to put against a new cruise.

However many passengers have expressed their anger at Royal Caribbean for choosing to sail them into such dangerous weather conditions. With the technology available today you would think they would have known how risky choosing to sail would be.

Surely this will again make people think is bigger always better, I’m just glad I was not on board this sailing, if I was I don’t think I would be getting on another ship for a little while.

Were you on board the Anthem over the weekend? If so how was it for you???
