Didn’t dig the ‘Queen’

FullSizeRenderWe’ve just come back from our annual visit to the Isle of Wight Festival. We’ve had a great time again with not bad weather, great company, less alcohol, but fantastic bands. The three headliners this year were Stereophonics, The Who, and Queen + Adam Lambert. The Stereophonics and The Who were both fantastic and I was really looking forward to seeing Queen on the Sunday evening.

As we waited in anticipation for them to arrive on stage we had a 50/50 split with our friends as to what to expect. I said I would know within the first few minutes whether or not I would like them or not. I never got to see Queen perform originally with Freddie Mercury, it would have been one of my top bands to see but unfortunately never got round to.

The rest of our party were also unsure as to what to expect. As the stage lit up, the curtain fell and Brian May, Roger Taylor, and finally Adam Lambert arrived on stage I was 100% sure I was not won over. I gave it 6 songs then myself and my partner Mark headed to the ‘Big top’ stage to watch ‘Feeder’ instead.

For me Queen was all about Freddie Mercury , he was a fantastic showman, a charismatic front man and that will never be recreated. Everybody says that Adam Lambert was by far the best fit they will ever have to replace Freddie Mercury but I’m afraid I’m not so sure. I could have easily been watching a George Michael look alike rather than Queen.

So I’m afraid this time our headline act didn’t quite float my boat, only wish we could turn back the clock to see Freddie on stage once more. If you get chance to watch any of the highlights on TV this weekend, check it out let me know what you think……………
