Countdown to Britannia!

Well its official! H.M the Queen will be naming the brand new P&O Britannia on 10 March.

Rumours have been flying around for weeks now and the date is now on the official website of the British Monarchy. This is the first P&O ship to be named by the Queen since 1995 when she named the Oriana.

The Queen has named all the Cunard ships apart from the Queen Victoria.

In true British style, her Majesty will be using sparkling wine from the Wiston Estate Winery in Sussex for the bottle smash as the ship is officially named. I bet a few bottles will be consumed after the event too!

I am lucky enough to be taking a sneak preview of the Britannia on 7^th March just before the true celebrations start. I am looking forward to see the largest union jack artwork and the true beauty of the design. One night is never enough to capture the full experience, however I will be exploring as much as I can of what this ship has to offer.

I am especially excited to see the Atrium with the centrepiece sculpture ‘Starburst’ that has been the talk of social media for the last year! I am also curious to see the cabin design and the décor throughout the ship as the contemporary/ comfortable look is my personal favourite.

Diner will be a highlight as it always is on the cruise lines. With so many specialty chiefs on board I wonder if the quality will be better than other P&O ships. It may not be a true reflection to experience just one meal so I may have to wait for the feedback from the later voyages.

Later in the evening I hope so sample a couple of the speciality beers in Brodie’s pub

followed by a cocktail (or 2) in the Crow’s Nest cocktail lounge.
