Are speciality restaurants worth the extra money?

A cruise holiday is about indulgence and when it comes to dining you can experience the finest dining for a supplement in the speciality restaurants.

Norwegian cruise line removed the charges across the Asian restaurants (apart from Teppanyaki) last week which is great news if you enjoy a taste of the orient!

Norwegian have the most variety when it comes to dining. Best to study before you travel because the choice is massive especially if you are on one of the biggest ships. They offer freestyle dining so the options are endless however if there is a restaurant you particularly fancy then it is worth making a reservation. Charges are made on half the restaurants on-board. The Bistro which is a French restaurant has my recommendation! The food is amazing and the charge is $20 so well worth treating yourself.

So is it worth spending the extra money to dine in the speciality restaurants?

If you want to experience world class cuisine by award winning celebrity chiefs then the answer is yes!

Royal Caribbean are probably the most affordable. You will pay $30 at Chops Grill, the steakhouse on-board most of the ships and Jamie’s Italian is only $25. There is so much choice that are included in the price of the cruise with Royal Caribbean that you may not even feel the need to splash out!

If you cruise with Celebrity cruises you will pay a little more for the steakhouse at $35 per person. Qsine which is a quirky contemporary restaurant will set you back $45 but the whole experience is totally worth it! Qsine is only available on selected ships. Worth booking early.

P&O charge dependant on the length of your cruise, however the prices are very good. Dine in the White room which is Marco Pierre White speciality restaurant and it will cost between £20 and £30. The food is fantastic and when you consider that you could spend over £80 in one of his restaurants in London it is a very good price and worth splashing out!

If fine dining is a priority on your holiday then you really should consider a luxury cruise line. Crystal cruises, Regent seven seas, Seabourn and Oceania offer the special touches and take care to pick out the best local ingredients. The price of your cruise will be significantly more than the mainstream, however all the restaurants are included in the price and more.
